Jack Le Brocq - WintonJack Le Brocq has provided the Cams Rising Star, Minda Motorsport prepared Mygales with their first podium finish of 2011 at Round 2 of the Australian Formula Ford Championship at the Winton Raceway meeting in central Victoria. Le Brocq had to deal with varied conditions during the weekend with a very wet race to end the weekend but Le Brocq kept his nose clean and continued to bring home all the points that were necessary.

Jack’s weekend didn’t start off exactly the way it finished as the #49 Mygale was struggling with balance in the car around the very technical Winton track which left him in 7th and 12th for Friday’s practice sessions.

“I wasn’t able to get the most out of the car on Friday after struggling with some balance issues but that’s racing sometimes and we put the results behind us and looked forward to the new tyre run in Qualifying”

Qualifying soon came around and Jack was able to take advantage of the dreaded new tyre that only gave the drivers 1 to 2 laps to get the most out of the car before the tyre dropped away. Le Brocq was able to grab 6th position only 0.03 seconds off 5th position.

“I was pretty happy with the result after Friday’s efforts and to come out here and put it on the 3rd row is always a good thing. We did make a few changes to the car overnight but most of our balance issues were answered with the new tyres. I was also a bit disappointed that I didn’t give myself enough room at the start of my lap as I caught traffic on the final three corners which was a bit disappointing”

Race 1 then followed on Saturday afternoon and Jack held 7th position from start to finish. Race two brought about better fortunes with Jack able to move up to 5th in the early laps so the race was looking promising. Jack was able to hold a steady gap to the 4 cars in front and even edging them back at times. Le Brocq kept his head down and as 3rd and 4th came together through turn 1, Jack seized the opportunity and claimed 3rd position.

“I was rapt with race 2! To finally be able to get a podium finish at this level is great and I can’t wait to chase down the first position. I was lucky in a way with the guys in front of me coming together but we had more speed during the closing laps and I was able to take advantage of the situation”

Heading into the final race of the weekend Jack was very confident that he could take it to the Sonic drivers in the dry conditions. Unfortunately Jack never got the chance as rain started to pour as the drivers were on the dummy grid. Jack didn’t get off the line very well dropping him to 11th place by turn one in the treacherous conditions. Jack then kept his head down after the safety car conditions and kept picking them off until he came over the line in 4th position, giving Le Brocq enough points to take 3rd overall for the weekends meeting.

“I am stoked that I was able to take 3rd for the round and it’s definitely one of the best things that could have happened for the team! We can now head into round 3 at Eastern creek in a couple of months time and really take it to the other drivers”
