Le Brocq Secures 2nd for the 2011 Australian Formula Ford Championship
After a very challenging weekend in central Tasmania at the final round of the Australian Formula Ford Championship, Le Brocq was strong enough to secure 2nd place in the Championship standings to top off a stellar year that has seen him secure 2 round wins, 4 race wins, 12 podium finishes and a lap record at Eastern Creek.
“I am ecstatic to walk away with 2nd in the Championship. It has been a hard year for us all in the Cams Rising star/Minda Motorsport squad as it was our first year with the Mygale chassis and with the small amount of testing we completed, we have all done an awesome job! To also walk away with 2 round wins on top of that with all the wins and podiums along the way is a huge credit to the guys.”
Le Brocq and the Cams Rising Star/Minda Motorsport squad started the weekend off on a high with Jack topping the time sheets in Practice 1 before being 5th quickest in session 2. From there the Team worked hard at trying to improve the setup of the Mygale Chassis for Saturday morning’s Qualifying session.
After putting the car on the 2nd row of the grid in third position during Qualifying, he capitalised on this and held onto third position in Race 1 to score valuable points to hold onto 2nd position in the Championship. For Race 2 the car showed some better pace and was right on the money during the opening half. After falling off the front running group and back into the clutches of the following pack it was a fight for the final podium position. Jack made the most of this and held onto 4th position which was enough for him to secure 2nd in the 2011 Australian Formula Ford Championship. Race 3 soon came around but Le Brocq’s season would come to an end on lap 2 as he dropped through the field after the drive shaft and gearbox gave in too soon, his year to end in pit lane.
“I was happy with how the start of the weekend came about. All I needed to do was score valuable points to stay in 2nd position. After struggling with car speed throughout the whole race I was able to do enough to grab 4th position in Race 2 and enough points to secure 2nd in the Championship. The final race wasn’t exactly what I wanted for my final race but that happens and we will move on from that.”
“I would like to thank Minda Motorsport TP Bruin Beasley, Race Engineer Ric Kemp, my Mechanic Aidan Zanotto, Andrew McInnes, the Minda Team, Geoff Morgan, Michael Stillwell, the AMSF Board, Mark Skaife, Lucas Docking, Greg Woodrow, my sponsors and family for their support during the 2011 AFFC Season.
