Jack Le Brocq - AGPJack Le Brocq successfully began his Formula Ford career with points on the board after an action packed Race 1 at the Famous Albert Park circuit in Melbourne.

After struggling with pace during practice and the early stages of qualifying everything started to turn around when Jack started to produce some quick times towards the end of the session. This would leave Jack to start from 15th position for his first race in the Australian Formula Ford Championship.

Saturday’s race 1 started off perfectly for Jack and after 3 laps had moved up as high as 10th position before the safety car was called out. After an eventful restart and despite a collision that damaged the rear of his Formula Ford, Jack was able to finish the 8 lap race off in 9th position.

“After an ordinary practice and qualifying session, I was very pleased with how the car handled towards the start of the race and I am very happy with the result. To walk away with 2 points in the bag is more than I expected for my debut race in the series. On the restart after the car being physically lifted off the ground from a car behind causing damage to the lower rear arm and exhaust system, I was very happy to be able to hold onto 9th position as the car was very loose in the rear for the remaining 4 laps of the race”

The second race at the Albert Park Grand Prix was sadly cut short after 1 and a half laps after a collision that required medical attention. Due to time restraints the event was cut short as there would not be enough time to restart the race.

Jack started race 2 from 9th position and after a great start he was able to get into 7th position by turn 3 and was in 8th position just before the safety car was called out.

“I was very disappointed that the race was called off as the car was showing good signs of speed and I was really looking forward to mixing it up with the best of them. After putting new brake pads on for the race, I hadn’t bedded them well enough in the warm up lap and struggled to pull the car up and was very surprised I was able to stick with the pack in front. These things happen in motor racing and we will now go into the next round with a great deal more confidence and see if I can run with the front running guys”

Jack’s next race will be at Qld Raceway as a support category for theV8 supercars from the 30th of April to the 2nd of May.
