Eventful Weekend for Round 2 at Queensland Raceway
Jack Le Brocq had a very up and down weekend at Round 2 of the Australian Formula Ford Championship held at Queensland Raceway. After finishing practice in 14th position at the very bumpy Qld Raceway circuit, Jack was pleased with where he ended up.
Le Brocq and the Cams Rising Star Squad/Minda Motorsport approached qualifying a different way to try and gain the most out of the new tyre gain. The team pitted Jack half way through the session and put the new set on. Jack wasn’t able to improve his time with the new tyres and had to settle for 16th position.
“I was pleased to be able to qualify as high as 16th on old tyres and to be in the top ten at one stage with that time, I felt the car was going to have some good pace during the races. The new tyres didn’t act as I thought they would with the car changing dramatically after we changed them, this was quite disappointing as I thought I was in for a really good shot at moving right into the top ten”
Jack started from 16th in Race 1 and just narrowly missing out on points as he came home in 11th position. For Race 2 Le Brocq changed his tyres to the set he started with in qualifying. The weekend got very eventful from this point on. After Jack setting times 2 tenths off the winner, in lap 7 he was unnecessarily hit at turn 2 and sent off into the gravel trap.
“After running as high as 8th position during the first few laps I was very disappointed that this happened. To make it even worse the recovery team pulling the vehicle out of the gravel trap tipped the car over. By this time I had walked off and later heard that they continued to do the same and rolled it over again causing in excess of $3,500.00 worth of damage”
Jack and his team worked frantically during the next 3 hours to get his car back together for the final race. The team were able to get the car ready and Jack started the final race from 21st. Le Brocq made a good comeback in this race to finish in 11th position just short of another championship point.
“After a dismal Race 2, I was happy to bring the car back in one piece and to move up through the field. I would have liked to have gained another position but with the traffic at the start of the race it made it hard to catch the next pack of cars”
Jack was asked to carry the three Channel 7 onboard car cameras on his Formula Ford for the weekend and watching the footage afterwards was an excellent learning tool.
Jack’s car won the “ACE-Kangan Institute Best Presented Car” for the Genuine Ford Parts Australian Formula Ford Championship Round 2 at Queensland Raceway. This was a great compliment to his sponsors CAMS, AMSF, ASC, Minda Motorsport, Penrite Oils, OAMPS, Boylan Traffic Solutions, Relux Slabs, Revolution Racegear, LCF Merchandise, Wolfchester, Splitrock, Blugreen, Sensorsafe, Viking Windscreens, Trevor Barnes Signwriting, Blackwell Bodyworks, Darren Spargo Photography and to his Mechanic Antony Webb.
“Overall the team did a great job during the weekend and the car showed some good pace during the last couple of races. I am now looking forward to my home round at Winton Motor Raceway in Victoria on the 15th and 16th of May.”
